Love Saw Me

Confused
unhappy
didn't know what to expect
hands held high
in a church
love saw me.

I wiped the tears from my eyes
thought about what I was missing
had a past that I couldn't commit to
but love sat by me.

Thought my present struggle was my future
made plans to become one
packed my bags
but love put them down.

Love saw me
from far away
a lighthouse
a vision of what was to come.

It didn't fight the truth like others did
it welcomed it and asked, "What will you have me to do?"

Love didn't judge me, it embraced me.
I received love, told it to never let go.
It gave me a new life, it promised a better future.

I could be me
didn't have to build a wall
I could trust again
I could love again!

Love saw me...

Before It's Too Late

Open up
let me in
forgot what
passion felt like
when I looked
at him.

The sun
the moon
the stars
revolved around us
at one time.

I loved him
but I had to let go.
I missed him
but I knew it was better not to call.

To hear his voice hurt
it reminded me of all that I had left behind.
But what else could I do?

He turned left when I wanted to go right.
I sped up when he wanted to go slow.
He wanted to be friends when I wanted a husband.

Now look at us,
pitiful.
We lose weight
stare off into space
no sun, no moon, no stars.

Tears fall from our eyes.
We think of what could have been.
Petty mistakes.

Still hopeful --
a future we discuss
plans we make
hopefully we will correct wrongs
before it's too late.

Sometimes It Isn't A Poem That You Need!

Sometimes we creatively share the feelings we have within our hearts. We want the person who we care about to understand how we feel and what our intentions are in the relationship. However, we fail to realize the problems. We forget what is causing the tension in the midst of pouring out our hearts with the use of smooth, sweet, and melodic words.

Hours, days, or even weeks later the problems resurface and there we are trying to figure out why the feelings of lust, rather than love, have gone away. I say lust because those warm feelings inside that we feel prior to lovemaking and then afterward is nothing more than lust, but love...oh love is the feeling that sticks around! It's the feeling that says, "I don't want to fight, I want to love you." It is the feeling that reminds us to call when we are out late. It whispers, "When was the last time you did something for me." Yes, love stands the test of time. Even when you look in the mirror and see a fat, greying, balding, acne ridden, bad breath, depressed person, your loved one just sees you. Love is an emotion that will fight for you even when you are wrong. It will forgive you even when you don't deserve forgiveness. Love will greet you at the door even when you know deep down inside you were thinking or doing something you know you shouldn't have before you arrived. As I write, I can't help but love the emotion of love. I have felt it so many times in my life when I least expected it! It came upon me ever so quietly and the tears fell upon my face like large rain drops falling down on my face unexpectedly before a storm.

So why do we allow our love to die? Then when we realize later that is what we have done, we scramble to rekindle it with poems, vacations, expensive gifts, and words. Wouldn't it make sense to keep it alive all along? It would be unfair and an outright lie to say, "I never knew I fell out of love with this person or he with me." The truth of the matter is the writing was on the wall all along, but love tends to be blind. Especially for those who so easily wear their lustful hearts upon their sleeve, they can only see the surface beauty in life, they awake each day so focused on preparing for work, going to work, and coming home from work that they take advantage of the love they have at home. For their eyes are closed to the beauty deep within! The person who cooks their meals, washes their clothes, or takes out their trash, isn't their soul mate because the lustful heart is too busy being consumed with his or herself. Then a sign or many signs come along to shake the foundation of the relationship! You find a note with a phone number on it, a text message that says, "I was thinking of you" or some other red flag that says, "It's time to make a decision: stay or go." Then we hate love! We curse it! We say why did we ever allow it come in our lives and sweep our heart away. But love didn't cause these problems, actions without love did. A flawed man or woman caused these problems. Love is perfect. Man and woman is not. It isn't required by human nature to stop loving a person when they have done you wrong, rather we should redirect our love! Find someone or something that will embrace our love! Some people share their love with God, others with servicing people who will appreciate their efforts, and still others choose to remain in the relationship and love just a little bit harder!

Whatever your approach to love is, whatever your opinion, know that love poems will always be there to capture your feelings. They are designed to embrace you and carry you on a journey away from your problems! You are invited to learn a thing or two from someone else's challenges. You can pen your thoughts, share them, hide them or throw them away. So the next time you seek a poem and it doesn't fulfill the desires of your heart, seek advice and lots of it. Keep the wisdom you can use and throw the other out!

Married

Married with children
married without children
seeking someone single...

What sense does that make?
When one made the mistake
of a past they didn't want
of a past that was a fake.

Big cars, big houses
big bank accounts
married.

Long walks, long talks
long letters
married.

Photos tell it all
a past worth living
but run to the one
a future worth giving.
Married.

What does that really mean?
I'm yours, your mine
together we dine
bedtime at nine?
Married.

Free to do what
free to live what
where to go but...
we want this
we fight for this
we will kill someone because of it
Married.

Connected, reconnected
disrespected, fix it and forget it
show off a ring, pick a song to sing
argue, fuss, fight, release,
wash off, kiss goodbye
everyday try
Married.

Oh I Got A Feeling

I got a feeling
that he will see the light
will try to make things work
with all his might.

Got a feeling the past will die
cause he'll listen to my cry.

Got a feeling that he loves me
held up a ring for the world to see.

Got a feeling that he hates me
for the life I live now free.

Got a feeling that he'll come around
his words tend to have that sound.

Got a feeling
Got a feeling
took my heart and lured me
spun me around
let me hit the ground
now he's through with me.

Oh I got a feeling
he'll thank me one day
some time in May
for the light that came on
inside a stubborn hard head.

Oh I got a feeling, got a feeling
will see my kids and they'll run to me
they will cry "I see, I see it's mommy."

Got a feeling that God will do it
got a feeling that he'll wake up
got a feeling that he'll call
got a feeling that won't be all!

Got a feeling, got a feeling!

You Don't Need Me

You don't need me
just wanted me
didn't want what I was offering
just borrowing
had a plan
from the beginning.

Have some fun
then your done
on to the rest.

You looked at me one day
something fell upon your heart
you knew that this one was for keeps.

You didn't want to buy
just try
didn't want a commitment
too much work
didn't want to settle
had been there done that.

But then things changed,
maybe you needed me after all.
Maybe you wanted what you now can't have
you learned a little too late
you found an escape
and now you want to close the gap.

Should have thought about that
before
should have listened closer
to what I had said
while we laid down in bed.

Should have prayed for a solution
could have closed the door of confusion
but it was familiar
sometimes chaos makes one comfortable.

It was too easy to get me
even easier to keep me
but you didn't know how
couldn't figure out the man
didn't have any plan.

So self-pity, hate, cry
moan, then wipe your tears
start all over with someone else
and when you come to a detour
find a way out
parade her around
smile and look down.

You don't need me.

I Saw A Vision of Him Once

I am in love!
The sound of his voice
brought peace to my mind.
I saw a vision of him once.

Light skin
dark hair
dark eyes
young
tall
sweet
kind
and of course all mine!

So happy about life I am
he was an added benefit
to my already blessed life.

I no longer felt the need to open doors
to men when I felt burdened.
No longer did I need a wind
beneath my wings because I found that in Jesus!

I could finally celebrate being in love
know that I would be okay
for the rest of my life!

The pillow I laid my head down
permanent
my address permanent
my name permanent
my dedication to the relationship steadfast!

I didn't have to search along the streets
wonder if he or him or that one was my future man
didn't have to hope anymore
didn't have to long for what was in store!

Because I knew
I knew...
before he came
I knew...
he didn't control my destiny
he didn't take what wasn't his from me
he didn't cheat on me
he didn't abuse me
he didn't lie to me.
His words were true.
He is an honest man.

What great joy
in knowing that I don't have to stay
up late at night hurting inside
because he won't touch me.

What peace I have
in knowing that he can talk to any woman
and I don't have to worry
he would cheat on me.

What happiness I have found
in knowing that he has not only embraced me
but accepted the extensions of me.

I am grateful
I am overjoyed
I am hopeful
of a man I never knew
a man I never met
a man whose coming...

Temporal Feelings for a Temporal Relationship

Like a raging inferno the heat
centered itself upon my frigid heart.

An unseen fire burned my abusive past, hidden anger, and bitter emotions.
I was instantly hypnotized, engulfed by his beauty.

He demolished my memories of the one before him -- instantly!

My thoughts crowded out by his presence.
My body shook for his touch.
My mind envisioned our future.

I could see nothing to the left or right of me
only the angel that stood five feet in front of me.
A bright light welcomed me, said "come quickly for it won't be long..."
I couldn't move forward my feet plastered to the floor.

I cried, struggled, prayed if only I could meet him halfway!
As I moved in his direction,
fear began to strangle me
I fought its grasp
walked toward the one, my one!

His light beckoned me, but I could not go on,
for what would happen next startled me!
Behind him stood a dark shadow half man half beast!

A dark angel
created to take my life!
What happened to the rush of emotions that uplifted me, blinded me?
They were no more!

His light a mirage of an imagination run wild.
I saw what I wanted to see at first glance...
what I thought was love at first sight.

How many victims had this beast claimed before me?
Images of wounded, naked women, peeked from behind his shadow
tears streaming from blackened eyes!
They fought to be seen from behind his dark shadow.
A black cloak covered them, they disappeared behind the veil.

He retreated when I resisted.
Spoke scriptures to him of God's love.
How could a dark angel that brightened my life for but a moment?
As quick as I fell in love with him, I hated him.
A wolf in sheeps clothing.

I vowed I would warn others.
He promised he would return.

Temporal feelings for a temporal relationship.

We Have History

We have history you and I
read a story of how you won
a young girl's heart
with your smooth words and mature demeanor.

You acted much older than your age
an intelligent man, a kind man, a friend of a friend
You were going places in life
but you like others had a weakness...women.

You broke her heart with your flirtacious grin.
Never focused too long on what was in front of you
always looking around.
You wanted her to do things with you that she wasn't ready.
She said no, and you had to go...
off into someone else's arms!
Oh how she despised you!

Later in life they would meet again
he would tell her of the love he made, and the love he gave...
Never did they connect, even then he wanted more.

As they grew older they spoke of their lives
and the changes they had been through
her heartbroken
his destroyed.

It could have been her in that truck
but they never did connect.

Always close calls, close encounters
but never meant to be.
Just as she wrote a poem to him many years ago...
penned her angry thoughts for having trusted him.
a sad end back then
a sad end now
while his music plays on...
