Married with children
married without children
seeking someone single...
What sense does that make?
When one made the mistake
of a past they didn't want
of a past that was a fake.
Big cars, big houses
big bank accounts
married.
Long walks, long talks
long letters
married.
Photos tell it all
a past worth living
but run to the one
a future worth giving.
Married.
What does that really mean?
I'm yours, your mine
together we dine
bedtime at nine?
Married.
Free to do what
free to live what
where to go but...
we want this
we fight for this
we will kill someone because of it
Married.
Connected, reconnected
disrespected, fix it and forget it
show off a ring, pick a song to sing
argue, fuss, fight, release,
wash off, kiss goodbye
everyday try
Married.

Saw the grief upon your face when I said goodbye
we hadn't broken up
we were only going our separate ways but for a moment.
I needed to return to my roots
a reminder of my old life.
Sometimes we allow our new world to change everything about us
including the good.
I couldn't allow that to happen.
So I left and found high up in the sky,
my freedom.
Would I return to familiarity to stay?
Would I leave you for what I knew better than I know myself?
Love is a funny thing when it comes to family.
No matter what you do in life, someone will always embrace you.
But relationships outside of family often do die.
They never seem to love you enough...
forgive enough...
listen enough...
hold on long enough...
before it's time to find someone else.
I'll never know what part of me returned to you,
I'll never know.

Where is The One?
Married
Convict
On the down low
Baby mama drama
Jobless
Unattractive
Unintelligent
Angry.
A selection of men
Given to the single woman
Who is
Single
Not in jail
On the up top
No baby daddy blues
Employed
Attractive
Intelligent
Happy.
Surfing on the Internet
Riding with party-goers
Watching men at work
Helping
Hoping
Wishing
Waiting
For the right one
The one
Who is just like her.
It isn't easy,
But good things are worth waiting for.

When People Love to Extremes
Love my job so much!
Didn't want to have to leave to make plans
for family, friends and everything else in between.
Love my house!
Sacrifice everything including relationships just for the upkeep.
No one understands how important my house means to me, but me.
Love my car!
Watch your hands, your feet, your butt in my seat.
Don't bother to ride unless you have gas money put aside.
Love my dog!
He's my best friend, will kill a man about him.
Respect him like you do a child and call him by his name.
Love my mother!
Refuse to accept what others say about her even when I know she's wrong.
Broke up with women over her, will never put anyone before her.
Love my child!
Lost and confused. A problem to society, but I will defend.
It wasn't his fault, it was yours.
Love my money!
More than life itself! It sustains me, heals me when God isn't bothered.
Don't ask me for any, you go get your own!
Extreme, selfish, jealous, crazy love.
To fight, argue, steal and kill for the "it."
An "it" dressed up pretty who means well
deadlier than the devil himself.
She shows up with good intentions.
He has her interests in mind.
They both rattle their so-called happy home with long hours at work,
an unexpected purchase, a trouble-making relative, and selfish desires within.
To love someone or something more than yourself, a foolish action.
It causes a negative reaction and in time many will learn the hard way.

When Mothers Fall Out of Love
Lost my freedom!
My spirit
My smile
My laugh
My peace
My joy
My strength
to the man in black
the baby in blue
to another in red
couldn’t make sense of all this.
This is why strangers look stressed,
confused, bitter, unresolved issues.
Too many screams, not enough money.
And I envied this life?
What was I thinking?
That’s right, I wasn’t.
God was.
A vessel - all I am is a vessel.
Hold my hand through this maze
of confusion!
Happy mom, sad mom.
Angry wife, peaceful wife.
Hateful friend, loving friend.
Help!
I’m falling out of love!

Relationship Games
Exchange phone numbers
play the game of who will call first?
Exchange stories of the past
does anyone really care?
Exchange dates and times to see one another
who will commit?
Exchange money for entertainment
neither insists to pay.
Hold on to hands open for something new.
Hold on to memories won't be too trusting.
Hold on to past lovers and say there only friends.
Now the calls of lust come.
Want another replay to numb the pain that haunts a broken soul.
Too busy to address issues rather break up to make up.
Too unforgiving but will bury it just this once.
Too afraid to commit to someone just as broken.
Play the game until one grows weary.
Then stop when someone else comes along that's new.
Gamble once again with unresolved issues, a misguided spirit, and no money.
Claim an unsuspecting victim in the game we call, relationship.
