Hold on to Your Faith

Clean Cup

A million pots of gold wishes--
reality sets in, I got dirty dishes.

Expected someone else to clean them up,
and bring me a new cup.

Some came did what they were told,
while others wished for my gold.

Gave up more than I received,
so my heart did grieve.

Had to trust in my God to straighten me up,
so I asked him for a clean, new and improved cup.

When things began to change in my miserable
love life, I felt stronger to deal with the trials and strife.

If I hadn't reached up and asked God to fill my cup,
then life would have ended, and my spirit let unmended.

But when I opened my arms, ignored spells and charms,
then love walked in to wash away my sin.

Only man held me to the past,
said my spirit wouldn't last.
But what he didn't know was the power of a fast.

If he knew my God, then all might have got better,
but he rarely took the time to read God's love letter.

Regrets I once had and many days I had been mad,
but these days I am glad more, than I am sad!

Woman at the Well

Blue skies,
a clear day
took the time to pray.

Have good news,
I saw the clues.
He was the one
who came to take away my blues.

He had a story,
one filled with glory.

He was the real deal,
and told me about The Seal.

You see, I was bought with a price,
even when the devil came to entice.

But the Great Father told me about my past,
and why the devil's love did not last.

He drew me a map of my history,
to him there was no mystery.

Said that I had much to do,
and that my days were limited to a few.

So there was no more time to spend with lovers,
had to encourage, uplift my lost brothers.

Couldn't be That One,
shining bright like a sun,
giving myself away,
like it was someone's birthday.

No need to cry anymore,
my spirit no longer poor!
I can't wait for what the future
has in store!

Love Found Me

"I make time for you,
do what I can do."
I say.

Then he tells me,
"Let us pray."
So I say, "Okay."

He opened up my life,
took away my constant strife!

When love finds you,
it's such a good thing!
There is more to it,
then just a ring.

He walked with me,
shared a world I couldn't see.

Said he loved me more than me--
told me of ways to please me.

Oh yes, love dried my sad tears!
Filled me with peace and drove away fears!

I am so happy and complete--
no longer taking a backseat!

Everyone and everything use to get the best,
put my emotions through difficult tests.

Tried to explain how I felt,
while my heart would just melt.

In his presence I am filled,
a cup of hurts, they spilled.

Wasn't happy at all,
didn't feel like standing tall.

But I kept the faith, told myself, "It's not too late,
one day there will be a wedding date."

When you put aside hate,
when you watch for a mate,
there love will be standing at the gate.

So I raise my hands high,
'cause my heart didn't die.
And I know that true love,
never tells a lie.

My Perfect Mate

I kiss you.
You embrace me.
Whisper how you will always love me.
Words not just for today, then gone tomorrow.

I tell you my faults.
We work together to fix them.
You don’t call me crazy.
You don’t say I’m troubled.
You tell me you have some faults too.

There are few words to explain
the love I have for that someone.

A spiritual someone who looks
at me from across the room.
Whose eyes love me.

Who tells me come over, hold my hand.
Let’s talk about everything.

He buys unselfishly.
Holds me perfectly.
Tells me what I love to hear!

Because his voice is precious.
No room for negativity.
No room for words to stab my heart.

Bye Old Man

A new man, a new day
rain in April, flowers in May.

Put off my old man,
On second thought, I ran!

Didn’t want to have to face,
or live with evil in a new place.

The roses of our love had long ago died
After the first time he had lied.

Loving this new place I’m in--
no longer in sin!

Feeling good about the new me,
as far as I can see.

I can’t speak for old him,
He tried to go out on a lim'.

Wanted to rush and get right,
before I took the next flight.

But I wasn’t interested in talking,
more interested in walking.

He was always looking for better,
but was bound by a letter.

He made a promise or two,
Or maybe it was a few.

He tried to make me forget
What he said when we first met.

He would take care of me,
but he hadn’t given up his key.

A lock to the past that he didn’t want to leave.
He didn’t expect me to grieve.

How could I not?
When this wasn’t what I had sought?

So I waited for my dove,
and now I’m in love,
with that new man, you see,
the one who hung upon the tree.

Met a Man Named "Love"

He walked with a strut
had a nice round butt.

Talked real low
his rap did flow.

I ran after him
waited for the lights to grow dim.

Had no cover
Had no brother.

He could have done what he wanted
since I taunted.

But he was kind
a hard to find.

He said his name was Love
claimed he was from above.

But I couldn't see
too busy pushing me.

He met me at the well.
Told me he liked to sail.

Asked me if I knew
if the words he spoke were true.

He talked about being
someone I remember seeing.

But my flesh was in the way
didn't like what he had to say.

So away he went.
Later I realized who was sent.
